Video Tour of the newly designed Saints Row city

With Saints Row The Third coming out this fall, we still have a while to wait. To keep us occupied and exited Jonathan Schmidt, lead terrain artist for Saints Row: The Third, will give us a tour of the newly designed city. With Volition’s new “CTG” world editor, Jonathan can change the world on the fly and craft the ultimate open-world experience. Check out the video over at Gameinformer.com

Bottom Line: With the last Grand Theft Auto being very serious, I strongly became interested in Saints Row 2. The easability of gameplay outperformed GTA4 in my mind. I’m very exited for this new title, and cant wait to see what it holds in store!

Dead Island Logo Censored by ESRB

As you can see from the original logo below, the man who hung himself is supposed to spell out the letter “i.” While some people dont really care so much for the cover art, ESRB certainly does. The new logo without the hung man (don’t laugh) will be released in America, while the old logo will still go live in Europe.

The video game industry has set guidelines about the types of content that are appropriate in advertising and marketing materials, which includes game box art. According to those guidelines the depiction in the logo was not compliant. We never censor or dictate in any way what type of content can be included within a game. However, a game’s marketing materials are seen by an audience that is much broader than that which actually purchases the game itself, so we enforce industry-adopted guidelines as to what is suitable for inclusion in these materials. - ESRB

Bottom Line: This is totally understandable, and I agree. When kids go to any retailer, they will see the box cover art regardless if they can purchase the game or not. The decision does however take away the scary element on the island. The first logo makes us think that the island is so unbearable that people hang themselves.

Best Buy calls police on a guy waiting for Nintendo 3DS

Many people are very exited for the Nintendo 3DS launch, including this hardcore fanatic in New York. While waiting in line, Best Buy called the police on him for soliciting outside of the store. Once the NYPD got there, he argued that other people get in line for the iPhone and such, so how come he can’t do the same for the 3DS. The cops told him to move, and get off the block. Later on he came back and tried to talk to the customer service inside the Best Buy. They told him that there are specific launch events through out the week, like the Chris Brown cd on Tuesday.  Therefore he has to get out of the line if hes not there for that specific item. The poor guy has been in line ever since Sunday, and finally today he finally got his long awaited gadget. Check out the video below, of his interview. Bottom Line: Racial profiling to the max, Haha just kidding!

CoD: Black Ops “First Strike” Coming to PC March 25th.

PC players can expect the Call of Duty “First Strike” DLC March 25th according to a tweet by Treyarch’s Josh Olin. After it was released back in February for the 360, PS3 players had to wait another month, and PC players had to wait even longer. I wish I knew why a map pack took so long to get on each platform, honestly. Well, any waiting will be over on Friday, but let’s remember that the PC version wasn’t quite as well received as its console counterparts. Currently on gamerankings.com, the PC version holds a 78.27%. They probably have patched up a lot of the issues with the game since those reviews, but it still leaves me wondering how much interest is on that platform for any DLC. Still, if you do have an interest, you can pre-purchase the DLC through steam and knock $1.50 off the 15 dollar price tag.

Nintendo refuses to compete against $1 cellphone games

Hideki Konno , the creator of the Nintendo 3DS , has told gaming publication Gamasutra that they aren’t concerned by cheap priced cellphone games and they have no plans to lower it’s pricing strategy anytime soon.

We’re not going to try to match that,” he insisted, addressing the issue of rock-bottom priced smartphone titles. “We’re just going to continually strive to not just maintain, but increase, the quality of the entertainment that we’re providing, and let it sort itself out. Again, we’re not worried about competing at a price point level. “Now of course as a customer, if somebody said to me, ‘Hey, we’ve got Call of Duty on your portable device and it’s only going to cost you 100 yen,’ yeah, I’d be super stoked, really excited about that.” “And I’d be really excited to see a great game at a really cheap price, but I just don’t think that you could make a game that’s immersive and as big as, let’s say Call of Duty, or any other large title, and sell it at that price point; it’s just not possible. “The only way that you’re going to get a game at that price point is if it’s a limited version with limited levels or something. They’re going to have to reduce it to sell at that price. So that other game – because the content is valuable – it’s still going to be a viable product at a higher price point. “If we went out and created one of our titles – a big title for Nintendo – and we decided to sell it at, like, say 100 yen,” he continued, “how many do we have to sell to get back our investment? That number’s insane. It’s just incredible, right? “As a game developer I’ve put my heart into what I create, and I’m hoping that what I’m putting out there is something that people will be engaged by and entertained by. And as a consumer, I want the same thing. If I go and I see a game that interests me and I think I want to play it, I don’t mind the fact that I have to pay a reasonable price for it.

“I’m not trying to say that I think games on cell phones are a bad thing; I’m not trying to say that they’re worthless, or have no value at all. I’m just saying that they’re just different. -Hideki Konno , Nintendo I agree with him , it’s really makes sense to what he is saying , cellphone games aren’t extreme quality titles , since they don’t have a big budget behind them , sure they can play well and be fun for a while , but won’t keep you coming back for more. But hey , it’s my opinion , leave what you think on the Nintendo vs Cellphone games debate.

Heavy Rain and Mass Effect 2 Win Big at BAFTA Video Game Awards

Meanwhile, in Great Britain… Last night was the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television) Video Game Awards in London, and it saw everyone from Black Ops to small indie titles like Twang! fighting over nominations. To perhaps nobody’s surprise, Peter Molyneux was given a Fellowship Award for outstanding achievement. Seeing as this man was behind a staggering 9 well-known titles including Fable III, it’s fair to say he deserves it. Best Game went to Mass Effect 2 - well done to Bioware for that. Other awards went to Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, Black Ops (saw that one coming a mile off too), Super Mario Galaxy 2 and God of War III. However, perhaps the biggest gainer in this ceremony was Heavy Rain, which walked away with a staggering 3 awards for Best Original Music, Best Story and Best Technological Innovation. Despite Britain only just waking up to the fact that games are a bigger part of the entertainment industry than ever before, it’s nice to see them getting the red-carpet, serious award ceremony treatment.

Capcom takes part in the Japan Relief

Ever since the tragic event in Japan, more and more people businesses, and companies are coming together to help. Lately almost every website I have visited, has a donate to red cross link. I’m so proud of us as ahuman society for coming together and helping each other out. With that being said, Capcom will be getting on board to help! So far the Japaneese company has donated 100m yen and implemented a number of other initiatives to assist relief efforts in the affected areas of Japan.

Apart from the donation, Capcom will also have a reduced price for Street Fighter on the iPhone. The game will have a reduced cost of 115 yen/59p/99c, and all the proceeds in all markets will go to the relief efforts. Players of Capcom’s monster hunter frontier online affected by the disaster will not have to pay their monthly usage fees. Capcom will also close and shorten hours at its amusement centers. This effort is to ease the use of Tokyo’s electric power, that is strongly needed for other sources.

Bottom Line: Apart from Capcom, other Companies like Sony, Nintendo, Namco, and Bandai are showing their support for the victims as well.

    Tribes: Ascend announced for 2011

Before there was Call of Duty or Halo or Battlefield, even before game consoles had online multiplayer capabilities at all, there was Tribes. This multiplayer PC game series, based off of Earthsiege (a series of mech-based games on PC that go way back), featured large-scale, vertical combat with vehicles and classes and everything in between. It’s known for featuring jetpacks, disc-launchers, and copious amounts of “Shazbot” spam.

Test Drive Unlimited 2 patch update for Xbox360

Eden Games has released their first patch for Test Drive Unlimited 2 on Xbox360. When the game launched it had some terrible problems, more specifically glitches, that game the game a below average reviews. The new update will resolve a corruption issue that some players experienced with their saved game files. Luckily for some their corrupted files might be automatically repaired. A second part of this update will be coming Monday. This 2nd patch will fix the problems associated with clubs among other issues.

Available on Monday, 3/14 at 1am PT (9am GMT) will be a patch that should address many of the outstanding concerns that some of the community experienced on PS3 and Xbox 360. We have worked diligently to stabilize the network and address log-in issues. Friends lists will now be populated, invites will work correctly and Clubs will be brought back online. The Casino has been optimized and the bug causing players to lose money has been resolved. We have also addressed many of the exploits in the game and will be monitoring cheating in all its forms.

Since the TDU2 community has provided great support, the development team will reward them with some free DLC later on. No further details on this yet, but maybe we will get some exotic new cars. The update is still currently being certified by Sony for PS3. So we will see a release maybe in a day or two.

Bottom Line: Test Drive Unlimited 2 Xbox360 patch 1 is out, with the second one on the way this coming Monday.
