Silent Hill: Revelation 3D is now in production

There has been many game related film announcement for the past week or so. Now the news hits us with another pleasing announcement about Silent Hill. Konami has announced that Davis Films have started the production on the sequel. The new movie will be called Silent Hill: Revelation 3D. The last movie Silent Hill was very scary and delivered a really enjoyable viewing experience. With high hope for this film, we believe that the movie production is in good hands.

“For over a decade, the Silent Hill franchise has been scaring players through psychological horror and the fear of the unknown,” said Shinji Hirano, President of Konami Digital

The filming began on March 7th. So probably the film should be here 2011 Q4 or 2012 Q1. Michael J. Bassett, Adelaide Clemens, and Kit Harington will be in charge of directing this movie.

New Tomb Raider film is in production

Graham King’s GK Films has just acquired the Tomb Raider franchise film rights. In case you didn’t know Graham King is an incredible producer. Rango, The Tourist, The Town, Edge of Darkness, and The Young Victoria are just a few examples of his work. The new movie will be produced by King and Tim Headington.With Angelina Jolie starting in the previous movies, it would be nice to see her back in action. No official details has been released regarding her appearance in the movie. Writers have not been hired for this movie, because GK Films are looking to do a Lara Croft origin story instead of  continuing her adventures. The main goal for this movie is to “create daring new adventures for the young and dynamic Lara Croft.” With the last Tomb Raider movies hitting over $432 million in revenue, this new title is guaranteed to be very profitable.

Bottom Line: Lara Croft is back in action in 2013!

Zynga Uses In-Game Promotion To Hype Rango

Johnny Depp’s new animation film Rango will hit the theaters this Friday. To help with the awareness and promotion for the film, Zynga created a fun little challenge. FrontierVille players will have to find Rango, ask their friends for 10 water buckets, and view the Rango trailer. Once those assignments are complete, players get a Rango statue to add to their homestead on FrontierVille. This is now the first time that Zynga used in-game movie promotion. They also did this in Mafia Wars prior to the release of The Green Hornet.

The director of Zynga’s global brand advertising Manny Anekal, says that there is no definite stats on how productive the promotion is. Keep in mind 9 out of 19 million FrontierVille users  interacted with the Megamind promo. The upside is that the user does not get annoying ads, but instead are rewarded for watching the trailer. The downside is that some people don’t really care about the film and are just in it for the collectibles.

Bottom Line: Zynga uses In-Game advertising to increase awareness and reward the users for cooperating.

Devil May Cry Gets Film Debut

Screen Gems, the movie studio who brought you the Resident Evil movies, has bought the rights to Devil May Cry. Perhaps they’re hoping that another Capcom franchise will bring them as much money as RE (which has grossed more than half a billion dollars). As of yet, not much is known about the Devil May Cry film, except that Dante will be i it (obviously) and will be killing demons to avenge his mother’s death. We don’t know whether Dante will be based off the original games, or whether he’ll be a completely new person for the purpose of the film. If game movies have taught me anything, it’s to not get your hopes up too high. The script writer is Kyle Ward, who appear to be a complete newcomer to the film industry. He doesn’t have many achievements to his name, having only written for one film previously (Fiasco Heights, if you’re interested). He’s also said to be writing for the Kane & Lynch movie, too. Essentially what we’re hoping for here is ridiculously over-sized swords, guns and over-the-top fight scenes. If the movie doesn’t deliver these, then maybe Screen Gems should settle with RE’s success and leave video games alone. Bottom Line: A Devil May Cry movie is in the works. Make of that what you will.

If you have not heard of Minecraft, then you’ve been living under a rock. Minecraft is an incredible game in which you play by placing blocks to build anything you can imagine.
